What is microdermabrasion?
Available in Europe since the late 1980’s, it is a quick, safe, effective form of exfoliation for all skin types and colors with no downtime and virtually no discomfort. Microdermabrasion uses inert corundum aluminum oxide minerals. Treated skin will be smoother, brighter, clearer, fresher, and younger looking.
Who can benefit from it?
Men and women of all skin types and colours. Anyone with congested, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dull, enlarge pores, fine facial lines, and sun damaged skin. It will produce a rejuvenated look and a refreshed feeling. Blotchiness, uneven skin tones, and texture will also be improved.
What areas can be treated?
Any body area can be treated. The most common areas are face, neck, chest, shoulders, back, hands, knees, and elbows.
Why microdermabrasion?
Approximately every 28 days we create a new layer of skin. As new cells form they push their way to the surface, in turn pushing dead cells to settle on the surface. This can cause enlarged and/or clogged pores, a bumpy uneven texture, and a dull appearance. As we age this process slows down leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance.
How long does it take?
The actual treatment takes between 15-40 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
How many treatments do you need?
This treatment is meant to be progressive not aggressive. Generally results are more noticeable after the 3rd treatment; although, after the first session the skin will appear fresher, cleaner, smoother and softer for some clients. Usually treatments are performed every 7-10 days or every 2 weeks for a series of 6. Maintenance treatments are suggested once every 4-6 weeks.
Are there any side effects?
Since there is minimal discomfort and no healing time, normal activity can resume immediately after treatment. Experiencing a slight tingling and tighter skin, as if exposed to the wind or sun, is normal. It may appear slightly flushed and this generally fades in 12-24 hours. It is very important immediately after treatment NOT TO EXERCISE where perspiration is created. You will develop a stinging sensation that can take several hours to dissipate.

Protect Your Lips! Start moisturizing early to prevent cracked & chapped lips this winter. I suggest using a non-petroleum based lip balm as it has been found that petroleum based products can have a drying effect on your lips. Find moisturizers that contain lanolin or beeswax which helps to seal moisture in. Other good ingredients to look for in lips products are jojoba oil, shea butter avocado oil, and mango oil!
